The UK Gambling Commission has concluded its funding consultation, confirming a 25% increase in license fees for the industry. The new rates will take effect on 1 October 2026.
Scope and Calculation Changes
The fee adjustment applies across the board to operating, personal, and supplementary licenses, as well as single machine permits, variations, and changes of corporate control. Society lotteries remain exempt from this increase and will maintain their current fee rates. The Commission has rejected a phased rollout approach despite objections from operators.
Operating licenses will be reclassified into new fee categories determined by regulatory returns from the 2025-26 period. Additionally, on-course bookmakers will transition to a Gross Gaming Yield market-share calculation method.
