On June 23, 2023, iGEN hosted a presentation event to select charitable organizations for member sponsorship. Puttinu Cares, a children's cancer support group, was among the four entities presenting their initiatives alongside the Malta Community Chest Foundation, Foodbank Lifeline Foundation, and the Malta Ranger Unit.
Victor Calvagna House Project
Puttinu Cares was established in October 2002 to provide holistic care for families with children suffering from cancer. The charity initially renovated the children's ward at St. Luke's Hospital, and operations are now based at the Rainbow ward within the Sir Anthony Oncology Centre in Msida.
The organization recently acquired a building in the WC1 district of London for £22 million. Located near Great Ormond, National, and Moorfields Hospitals, the site is being converted into Victor Calvagna House. The renovation includes the construction of 27 wheelchair-accessible apartments, with iGEN members invited to sponsor specific units.
Puttinu Cares manages accommodation for families traveling to the UK for medical treatment, supplementing government-covered healthcare costs. The charity currently operates 26 apartments in Sutton and treats between 60 and 90 patients monthly across 30 hospitals. CEO Rennie Zerafa stated that "having accommodation available close to treatment centres is also an important ingredient in the sick child's care."
